SEWING TECHNOLOGY, INC. RECEIVES DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE CONTRACT TO PRODUCE HGU 55/P COMBAT EDGE FLYERS HELMET VISORS FOR U.S. MILITARY

BUFFALO, NY -- Sewing Technology, Inc. a contract sewing and manufacturing company, has been awarded a contract from the U.S. Department of Defense to produce the HGU 55/P Combat Edge helmet visor assembly. Sewing Technology, Inc. is one of only three government approved qualified sources in the country to produce this product. The contract consists of a base year and four one-year options, with a production potential of 90,000 visors over the five year period.

The lens visor assembly is worn by pilots of high performance fighters and is a critical life support item. Specialized manufacturing is required in order to insure compliance with the visual acuity and ballistic requirements of the military specification which governs this item.

"Sewing Technology, Inc. went through a rigorous qualification process with the U.S. Air Force that started in April 2009," said Lisa Donhauser, president of Sewing Technology, Inc. "Sewing Technology manufactured tens of thousands of these visor assemblies as a subcontractor for another company in the late 1990's into early 2000, at which time the contract was put out for bid again and awarded to another company," Donhauser said. "We wanted to become a qualified source so that we could bid the contract on our own and are thrilled that it has been awarded to us."

Sewing Technology, Inc. is a woman-owned, HUB Zone business. For more information, please call (716) 845-6067.
